The Harlequin Dance Association has a long tradition, following a gradual line of development and providing dance education for children beginning in preschool and continuing through primary and high school.
In 2006 the organization became a member of daCi (Dance and the Child International) which promotes the growth and development of dance for children and youth on an international level.
In dance instruction groups children acquire a common basis for later training in contemporary dance or classical ballet. Instruction in classical ballet began in 1988 when the foundations of ballet training were established under the guidance of Ane Vovk Pezdir, the current artistic director of Harlequin, together with her mentor and teacher Henrik Neubauer. Currently, the tenth Harlequin dancer is being trained at the Secondary School for Ballet, where lessons in contemporary dance are also offered.
